The idea behind this blog is awareness, it's about being critical of our environment and challenging social norms. Our signs "we need feminism" demonstrate this need for a social critique, and promote the idea that feminism is still necessary and that everyday people of all ages, genders and ethnicities within Auckland experience this need.

Information:
Postfeminism is increasingly becoming a marketing tactic in today's media. Post feminism isn't easily defined and many meanings have been assigned to the term, the common understanding is that post feminism refers to an end of feminism. Within this idea feminism is no longer necessary or required as it promotes the idea of our society being now equal. Post feminism discourse is used in media to promote the idea of a female who is strong and powerful, she makes her own choices and is completely independent. Example of this are; wonder women, Sex in the City and claims such as "because your worth it". These promote an idea of an empowered women, but at the same time silence the need for feminism. Post feminism within a media context is closely inter tangled with consumerism, as the underlying goal of using this is to sell more of the product, while fueling the belief that women are consuming these materialistic items because they choose too.
